History
Crest Marine was founded in 1957 in Owosso, Michigan, by owner Maurice Shell. The company was initially known as Maurell Products. Shell was one of the first people to craft a modern pontoon boat, which was extremely popular with local customers, so he developed a dealer network to sell his boats.
Over time, Shell continued to improve his pontoon boat designs by installing gates and improving safety and comfort measures, with permanently mounted furnishings. Style choices became a standard as well as the company continued to improve and expand throughout the latter part of the 20th century.
Luxury Crest pontoons were released in the 1990s, with built-in coolers, audio systems and changing rooms, among other amazing features. Shell ran the company for almost 50 years and in 2010, some Detroit investors turned it into Crest Marine.
